Paper B - Amendments

Paper B

In this exam, the candidate has to respond to a communication from the Examination Division. Claims have to be amended and their novelty and inventive step has to be defended in view of the cited prior art. The client provides some guidance in terms of embodiments he (or she) would like to have protected. Since 2013, the client also suggests some claim amendments.

Before 2017, there were separate exam papers for chemistry and mechanics/electronics. From the published results, it is impossible to determine which paper a candidate chose to make. Therefore pass rates for these years don't say a lot about the difficulty level of specific papers. Since 2017, all candidates make the same exam.

Because of the Covid pandemic, the 2020 pre-exam was cancelled.
